Information
Colosseum
The Colosseum is a grand amphitheater located in Rome, Italy. It is built from large stones and bricks and has a circular shape, making it instantly recognizable from a distance. It was originally used for gladiatorial contests, bullfights, and other public spectacles. Despite being constructed many centuries ago, it was a massive and durable structure, capable of holding up to 50,000 spectators. Although parts of it have been damaged over time, it still stands as one of the most important landmarks in Rome.
In 72 AD, the emperor of Rome decided to create a monument that would reflect the power and glory of the Roman Empire. The Colosseum was built on the site of a former artificial lake over eight years to symbolize Roman might and unite the citizens of the empire. Even after more than 2,000 years, much of the Colosseum still remains intact, showcasing the extraordinary engineering skills of ancient Rome.
