Big Ben: The United Kingdom’s iconic landmark

Big Ben is the name of the famous clock tower in London, England. Originally, the term “Big Ben” referred to the large bell that rings to tell the time, but it now refers to both the clock and the tower itself. The clock tower contains a large, heavy bell that chimes every 15 minutes to indicate the time. Even though it was built around 165 years ago, Big Ben is still one of the most recognized landmarks in London.

Big Ben was completed in 1859, on the north side of Westminster Palace in London. During this time, Britain was advancing rapidly in various fields. New inventions and technological improvements allowed the country to grow at an accelerated pace. Many large buildings were constructed, and Big Ben was one of the most notable. As an architectural icon of London, Big Ben has always been there for its citizens, and throughout the turbulence of World War I and World War II, when the city was under threat, its bell kept ringing, making it a symbol of London.
