Information
The Sydney Opera House: Australia’s iconic landmark
The Sydney Opera House is located on Sydney Harbour in Australia. It is famous for its unique design, featuring a white roof that looks like large seashells or the sails of a ship. Set against the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbor, the Opera House has become one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions. Today, it is home to a wide variety of performances, including operas, theater shows, and orchestra concerts.
In the 1950s, Australia held an international competition to design a new theater. One architect came up with an imaginative and original design that had never been seen before. Because it was such an innovative concept, it required more time and money than anticipated. Despite many difficulties, including budget overruns and challenges in building the unique roof, the construction was completed after 16 years, and the Opera House officially opened in 1973.
