Information
Gyeongbokgung
Gyeongbokgung Palace is a royal palace from the Joseon Dynasty, located in Seoul, South Korea. It was burned down during the Imjin War but was rebuilt to its current form. The palace consists of various buildings, including those where the king met foreign ambassadors, conducted state business with officials, and where the royal family lived. Also, the palace’s scenic beauty, perfectly balanced with nature, can be admired.
Following the end of the Goryeo Dynasty, the Joseon Dynasty was founded. King Taejo, the first king of Joseon, chose Hanyang (today’s Seoul) as the capital and established Gyeongbokgung Palace. The central location of Hanyang made it ideal for governing the nation, and its natural defenses, such as mountains and rivers, provided protection from invasions. Gyeongbokgung, established alongside the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, held a significant role in the Joseon dynasty for approximately 500 years.
