Information
Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a statue located in New York, USA. It was a gift from France to the United States in celebration of the 100th anniversary of America’s independence. The statue holds a torch in its right hand, representing “the light of liberty that shines across the world,” and in its left hand, it holds the Declaration of Independence, with the date of America’s independence engraved on it. The crown on the head represents the seven continents. The Statue of Liberty is not only admired for its beauty but also regarded as a symbol of freedom and democracy in the United States.
When the Statue of Liberty was being constructed, the United States and France had a strong relationship. Gustave Eiffel, the designer of the Eiffel Tower, contributed to the design of the statue, and France agreed to create and ship the statue to America. During this time, a large number of immigrants were arriving in the U.S., and many of them passed through the New York Harbor, where the statue stands. Because of this, the Statue of Liberty has come to represent the United States as a country of immigrants.
